Ideology

The Blues Brothers is an implicit ideological film

Jake and Elwood, the protagonists, represent freedom and lawlessness.

Antagonists, the police, represent law and order.

Police, military, and SWAT members finally catch Jake and Elwood

Jake and Elwood follow the Rock n’ Roll ideals of living life on your own terms and rebelling against authority.

Antagonists try to stop the brothers because their lifestyle is the exact opposite of theirs.

Jake and Elwood reminiscent of outlaw cowboy characters in many western films

The bluesmobile serves as their horse, their outfits are like cowboy outfits, and they live a lifestyle not governed by authority.

The conflicting values of the Blues Brothers and their enemies are not focused on in the movie, since it’s a lighthearted comedy that puts more emphasis on the music rather than the ideological messaging.

An explicit ideological would be more likely to have a serious main character as it is difficult to infuse comedy and serious messages.
